What Are Dermal Fillers (aka Facial Fillers)?

Dermal fillers are used to smooth deep wrinkles, fill facial folds and enhance various parts of the face such as the lips, cheeks and jawline. They can also be used for depressed or sunken areas such as scars. This commonly sought-after treatment produces results immediately that can last for 1-2 years.

        How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that increases skin volume. Upon arrival, Your skin will be cleaned and prepped, and a full consultation with one of our 3 in-clinic doctors will take place. The dermal filler is then injected beneath the skin into your desired treatment area to restore lost volume, smooth lines and deeper wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.

Which Concerns Can Dermal Fillers Treat?
Dermal fillers can treat common concerns like lost volume in the skin, asymmetry of the face, loss of plumpness in the lips and cheeks, and wrinkles/fine lines that are a result of aging. Certain types of Dermal fillers, such as Sculptra(™), can even work to promote collagen production so the treatment area remains youthful, smooth, symmetrical, and plump naturally.
How Much Do Dermal Fillers Cost?

        Facial Fillers Areas We Treat

The areas available for facial fillers we offer include lip, cheek, chin, nose, and under eye dermal treatments.

        Lip Fillers

Whether you’ve lost volume in your lips due to age, or are looking to create a more dramatic look, plump up your pout with dermal lip fillers. If adding volume isn’t for you, there are specific types of lip filler that can also be used strictly for hydration and smoothing out fine lines.  Our natural, effective approach to shape and definition will have your smile looking even brighter!

        Cheek Fillers

Loss of volume in the cheeks can be a result of aging that makes your face look ‘pulled down’ or tired. Add some plumpness to your cheeks to have a firm, rosy, lifted appearance to your face - making it more symmetrical and youthful. Learn more about Sculptra.

        Chin Fillers

Many people struggle with a smaller chin that can, in turn, affect your jawline definition. With chin fillers, your face becomes more symmetrical, your jaw is contoured, and your side profile is improved.

        Nose Fillers

This treatment is often referred to as a non-surgical or “liquid” rhinoplasty. Dermal fillers are injected into areas of the nose to improve the look of crooks or bumps along the bridge, or asymmetry in the nostrils.

        Under Eye Fillers

Our eyes can look tired or appear sunken for several reasons; inconsistent sleep schedules, aging, even hereditary reasons. Under eye filler is the perfect solution for giving a more rested, awake, and youthful look. Reduce the look of puffiness, dark circles, crow’s feet, and drooping with dermal fillers injected under the eyes.

        Treatment Benefits of Fillers

There are many treatment benefits to dermal fillers, especially due to the immediate results.

Some of the treatment benefits of dermal fillers include:

        • See results right away: Many Skin Matters patients see the results of their dermal fillers immediately.

        • Short treatment time:  Treatment time depends on the number of areas treated and amount of product used. The expertise of our doctors will ensure the quickest treatment time, while still guaranteeing safe and effective results. Appointments may vary from 1-2 hours, and last for years.

        • No downtime: Once you’re done with your short treatment, you can enjoy your immediate results and show them off the same day! You can return to work or regular activities immediately, so long as you are careful to apply sunscreen and manage any pain/swelling with ice packs.

        • Long-lasting results. Even though the treatment time is quick and dermal fillers are minimally invasive, you can still enjoy results for months with just one treatment. If you attend regular treatment sessions, you can enjoy optimal results for years.

        • Minimal cost. When compared to surgical procedure, dermal fillers are typically less expensive and pose less risks.

        Treatment Risks of Fillers

Even though dermal fillers are minimally invasive and can be corrected if necessary, there are some minor risks you should take into account. Serious complications are extremely rare - especially when you’re in the hands of a professional, talented team like the one at Skin Matters.

Some risks of dermal fillers include:

        • An asymmetrical appearance. When adding filler to the lips or cheeks, you may see less volume in the right side of your face than your left, or vice versa. This can easily and quickly be fixed by adding more dermal filler to the area that has less volume to achieve facial symmetry. This can also be caused by temporary swelling and may subside within 1-2 weeks post treatment.

        • Bleeding, bruising, redness, and swelling. After any treatment that involves injections, you will experience some swelling and redness in the treatment area, which can easily be reduced with ice packs. If you experience bleeding or bruising in the injection sites, make sure to keep your head elevated to promote proper blood flow.

        • Infection. Though incredibly rare, risk of infection can occur if the injector is improperly trained, and/or does not use sterile tools which can introduce bacteria into the injection site.

Are You a Candidate for Dermal Fillers?

So long as you don’t have active/open lesions, breakouts, or infections in the treatment area, you are a great candidate for dermal fillers. If you want to increase volume in your lips or cheeks, reduce signs of aging, or define your facial symmetry and jaw area, fillers are a great option for you.

Make sure during your Skin Matters consultation that there won’t be an adverse reaction to the filler solution, and thoroughly go over your medical history so you can be cleared fully before your treatment. To ensure there are no risks and minimize any potential side effects, it is important to go through your full medical history during the initial consultation at Skin Matters.

        How to Prepare for Fillers

To prepare for dermal fillers, you will first have a consultation with one of the Skin Matters medical technicians , who will examine your skin, ask about your goals, and discuss which areas you would like to treat . Your medical technician  will also ask about your medical history and which medications you are taking, as some drugs can increase your risk of complications. Upon arrival, you will be asked to cleanse your skin with one of our medical-grade gentle cleansers.

        Aftercare for Fillers

After you receive your dermal filler injections, the Skin Matters team will cleanse your skin and give you an ice pack to ease swelling and any pain you might experience. You may have swelling and bruises after your injections, but these side effects will go away within a few days. Have pillows propped up to support blood flow while you sleep and hydrate as much as you can

        Fillers Recovery Timeline

Your recovery timeline will generally only last 1-3 days, as you are able to return to your normal activities immediately following your treatment. There are very few restrictions with dermal fillers and you will just have to have certain things like pillows and ice packs ready when you get home to ensure your comfort.
