Vancouver Microneedling Treatments

What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a procedure that is minimally invasive and highly effective for addressing numerous skin concerns. By using a pack of thin needles adjusted to the appropriate depth, the device creates tiny puncture wounds in the top layer of your skin. These wounds then stimulate your skin’s healing process to encourage the production of collagen and elastin, two naturally occurring proteins that keep your skin youthful and plump. You can have microneedling performed on your face and other specific areas of the body, such as the top of your hands or the decolletage.
What is a DP4™ Microneedling Pen?
The new DP4™ Microneedling Pen by Dermapenworld™ Clarion is the latest microneedling technology available on the market. This microneedling pen represents an upgrade from previous microneedling devices and performs the treatment at a faster more effective rate than other similar devices..
At Skin Matters, we will use the DP4™ Microneedling Pen to administer your microneedling treatments. The DP4™ Microneedling Pen helps improve the appearance of major skin concerns such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, sun spots, and age spots. The DP4™ Microneedling Pen can also improve the appearance of stretch marks, enlarged pores, and pigmentation issues.
The device’s enhanced speed and remarkable precision will increase your overall comfort, plus deliver superior results that will help you achieve a more youthful appearance.
How Does DP4™ Microneedling Work?
The DP4™ Microneedling Pen glides over the skin, creating millions of fine, vertical channels faster than other Microneedling pens. These channels can carry more topical nutrients deeper into the skin. The micro-injuries trigger a natural repair process, increasing collagen and elastin production and visibly improving a wide range of skin concerns. It is the only device in the world that can treat scars by safely achieving a 3mm depth into the skin.
It is best performed with the combination of one of the following treatment options:
- NCTF® Boost 135 serum for hydration and glow.
- Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for optimal healing and repair.
- DP4™ MG: Booster Series serums to specifically target your key concerns (acne & congestion, fine lines & wrinkles, hydration & radiance, hyperpigmentation, and scarring).

Risks and Side Effects of Microneedling
Risks of microneedling are rare, but as with any cosmetic procedure that involves wound healing, there is a risk of infection. Side effects of this procedure tend to be temporary and mild. The most common side effects of microneedling in Vancouver are short-term swelling, redness, and skin flaking. Please be sure to closely monitor your side effects and follow your aftercare instructions so you can play your part during your recovery process.
Are You a Candidate for Microneedling Treatment?
If you want to rejuvenate your skin and reduce signs of aging with a minimally invasive treatment, microneedling at Skin Matters is a great option! However, you should avoid microneedling or consider another treatment option if you are taking certain medications, have a blood disorder, have cancer, or have certain skin conditions that may make it unsafe to perform this treatment.
During your consultation, discuss your medical history and skin health concerns with the Skin Matters team. If our doctors conclude that microneedling is right for you, we will proceed with scheduling your microneedling appointment and you can look forward to refreshed, smoother skin!
How to Prepare for Your Microneedling Treatment
To prepare for your microneedling treatment, you should:
- Cease using exfoliants (physical and chemical) such as AHA/BHAs and scrubs, as well as any/all retinoid/Vitamin A products for 2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Talk to your doctor about your list of current medications and supplements and, if applicable, stop taking them.
- Clean skin your skin with a gentle cleanser prior to arriving for your appointment.
- Do not shave or wax the treatment area 24 hours prior to the appointment.
Contact Skin Matters if you have any questions or concerns; we can provide the guidance and clarifications you need!
Aftercare & Recovery for Microneedling Treatments
Once your microneedling treatment is finished, you can resume your day as normal. Your skin may be slightly red or swollen for up to five days, but ice packs can reduce irritation and discomfort.
We kindly ask that you avoid prolonged sun exposure in the 48 hours after leaving Skin Matters. Since your skin’s surface has tiny holes in it, it will be incredibly sensitive to sunlight. Avoiding sun exposure is an important aftercare step because it will allow your skin to heal properly over the coming days. If you must go into the sun, please wear protective clothing such as sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
We encourage you to clean your skin with a gentle cleanser, too. Please avoid abrasive cleansers that contain beads or harsh ingredients that could potentially irritate your skin. Avoid wearing makeup for 2-3 days until your skin fully heals. Retinoids/Vitamin A and exfoliants may be resumed 2 weeks post-treatment.
Microneedling FAQs
How often should you do microneedling treatments?
For optimal results, you should receive microneedling treatments every 4-6 weeks. Microneedling maintenance treatments make it possible for you to continue to enjoy your skin's appearance and the numerous benefits of collagen induction therapy.
Can you see the results of microneedling after one session?
Yes! You’ll be pleased to see visible skin improvement after only one microneedling session. How many treatment sessions you’ll need to undergo to achieve your desired aesthetic outcomes will largely depend on the severity of your skin concerns.
Is microneedling painful?
Thanks to the advanced and innovative design of the DP4™ Microneedling Pen by Dermapenworld™ Clarion, you won’t feel much pain (if any) during and after your microneedling treatment session. Still, our dedicated team at Skin Matters works hard to ensure a comfortable, tolerable treatment session, whether you’re coming to us for microneedling or any other cosmetic procedure.
Topical numbing cream is typically applied to the skin if it would make you feel more comfortable during the brief treatment session.
In terms of post-procedure pain, you might feel some discomfort. If you do, it should be mild and should subside shortly. That’s one of the biggest benefits of the DP4™ Microneedling Pen—its combination of speed, power, precision, and other features means less pain for patients like you!
Can you microneedle at any age?
Microneedling treatment is appropriate for adults 18 and older, but you should be aware that it is most effective on mild to moderate skin concerns. If you are older and have severe sagging skin or deep wrinkles, we suggest talking to our skin experts about a different procedure better suited to your needs during your complimentary Skin Matters consultation.
How does microneedling compare to laser treatments?
Similar to laser treatments, DP4™ microneedling stimulates collagen production. The mechanics of action are different, though: lasers heat the skin layer, while the Dermapen 4 creates tiny puncture wounds on the skin’s surface. There’s little to no downtime required after microneedling, but the results don’t last as long as those produced by laser treatments, which are considered a more aggressive treatment approach.
Deciding if laser treatments or microneedling in Vancouver is right for you comes down to your specific skin care needs and preferences. Laser treatments, for example, usually produce more dramatic results in fewer sessions, but microneedling is suitable for all skin types and skin tones. If you’re having trouble deciding between laser treatments and microneedling, our friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable doctors would be glad to offer you our recommendations.
What should I avoid after my microneedling session?
Please avoid sun exposure after your microneedling treatment. Tanning beds are also not a good idea because your skin cells are regenerating throughout the recovery process. The sun’s powerful rays can delay wound healing. Also, avoid any chemical or physical exfoliants, and all Vitamin A products for at least 2 week post treatment.
Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely! If you’re interested in combining DP4™ microneedling with other treatments, we can discuss your options. Many patients elect to combine DP4™ microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments. The growth factors in PRP can make your results more pronounced as well as accelerate your recovery time, and we proudly offer PRP treatments at Skin Matters.
